I love you, Willie! Growing up in rural Kansas, Willie was the Bob Marley of the Midwest. He made cannabis cool for drugstore cowboys and C&W fans. Whole generations of goat-ropers and shit-kickers turned onto weed and as a gay hippie, let me tell you, it was social engineering at it’s best. Instead of local cowpokes wanting to kick my ass, they wanted to know if I could score some grass. Without exception, the local ropers I knew became better human beings after smoking pot – it sure made my life easier until I could get out of there once I was 18. Willie Nelson will always be dear to my heart and his value to America’s heritage is inestimable. National legislation to legalize marijuana should bear his name as part of the title. Until then, Willie’s “rose-colored glasses” will suit me well.
